Gloria In Excelsis (Deo) Latin for "Glory To God In The Highest" Added 12/23/16 |

Antonio Vivaldi Antonio Vivaldi wrote at least three settings of the hymn Gloria in excelsis Deo, whose words date probably from the 4th Century and which is an integral part of the Ordinary of the Mass. Two survive: RV 588 and RV 589. A third, RV 590, is mentioned only in the Kreuzherren catalogue and presumed lost. The RV 589 Gloria is a familiar and popular piece among sacred works by Vivaldi. It was probably written at about the same time as the RV 588, possibly in 1715. Christmas, Sacred Cantata, Hymn |

Chip Davis for Manheim Steamroller W&M by Charles Wesley; This arrangemnt by Paul Albrecht. TOH XGM Mix by: Don Allen 2015 Christmas Symphony is the twelfth Christmas music album overall released by American musical group Mannheim Steamroller. The album was originally released in 2011. Recorded in Prague, the album features members of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, performing new recordings of previously released Mannheim Steamroller arrangements. **The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, notably by Wesley's co-worker George Whitefield who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one, and by Felix Mendelssohn. In 1840, a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems, Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, that propels the carol known today. Christmas Music, Christmas Carol, Classical |
