OK, so what is Play4Me?
A free MIDI-based live global synthesizer and song editor in a browser?
That's Play4Me. We invented the WAW, which is one-better than a DAW
because it focuses on MIDI and it edits and plays live. Whoever wants
to join or participate from anywhere is "in".
Getting started is easy and there is no wrong way.
1. When you first open the WAW we give you a Default project. You could
remove all the channels and start from scratch or make yourself a short
demo starting with this "New Project". The triangular Play button at the
top will start the beat and any MIDI device in Input 1 can be used to solo
on the Electric Piano
2. You add Channels, Instruments and audio Effects. You add new Sequences,
load in some loops or record into them. From the top bar you can change the
beat and meter, turn on the metronome and adjust overall Settings to taste
(the gear in the upper right). It is harmless to explore and try any combin-
ation of features. Note: Timbres of Heaven will be integrated as an alterna-
tive to the current introductory sounds, which are mainly derived from Fluid GM.
3. You can Drag and Drop many items, including Channels (to reorder them)
plus Instruments, Effects and Sequences (to reorder or copy them to another
channel). Sequence settings, like number of measures or repeats, are available
from the triple-dot vertical icon to the right of each Sequence. You queue a
recording by clicking on an empty Sequence circle.
If you don't get the hang of it right away, post to the group, I'll help out.
4. When you are ready to write songs with others, live and in real time, or play
together with or without your backing track, Log in (on the upper right) and click
on the Cloud icon at the top once it lights up. The broadcasting Person icon
("On the Air") is used to connect your instrument directly to your audience, when
you're ready. If you want to lead a group, switch to Perform.
If you want to work with a Performer's band, Drag them from the list in the Cloud
dialog over to the right and either join Open Mic or with he password they gave you.
If you just want to listen, Dragging is enough.
5. You can save your work as a local JSON file or in the cloud as a User project.
You can also publish to the Community, where everyone can see it and load it into
their workspace to try it out. Go to the Folder icon next the Project name at the
upper left. MIDI Export is a Premium feature that appears for the whole Project,
and any Channel or Sequence.
6. Conversion to audio files and import into standard DAW's are in the works, as
are generating sheet music and displaying more real-time visualizations. The more
adoption we get, the faster we can build.
We're keeping our early outcomes confidential for now, since we believe we are
first-movers with the networking technology and we'd like to retain that advantage.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Now it's time to check out play4.me !
Have fun, Wayne and David
