Let The Games Begin!
Object of the game/app . . .
Make a chorus!!! TURN IT INTO A SONG!
[Verse] [C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am '''] %%%
Get creative! Learn about making progressions!
The app will select random chords from the 6 of 7 chords in a major scale.
Dice only have 6 sides! LOL So I did not include the 7th chord, Dim or m7b5.
EX: In the key of G, the chords are G Am Bm C D Em (F#dim).
Click on the link below to enter the game page.
Pick the key for your progressions. (I picked G.)
MENTALLY . . .
Decide how many chords you want in your chord progression.
2, 3, 4, 5, 6 . . . or as many as you like!
NOTE: You can create really cool Chord Drills! Click the dice
10 or 12 times! Then play the 10/12 chords in drills!
THEN . . .
Click the green dice button once for each chord. Write them down! In order!
Because this is a RANDOM progression generator, you could end up
with some pretty cool MODAL progressions! Different modes of the
key you selected! So you might pick the key of G, and get a cool
minor progression! Or a Lydian, Mixolydian or Locrian VIBE!
I'm going to include just a teeny bit of Chord Theory here! In line
with the Game!
Get creative! Write out some progressions using those chords. EX:
~ / ~
NOTE: I just clicked the dice 4 times, and am literally using what I got!
I wrote them down, popped them into BIAB, and got what you hear below!
You (I) decided on a 4 chord progression. You got C Em G Am (4612 in G)
(IV vi I ii) Interesting! This could also be a 1356 in C! (I iii V vi)
So, you could call it a C major progression. But that depends 100%
on the "melody" you give it! How you want it to feel.
You could call it a C Lydian progression! C is the 4th degree
of G. If C is the tonal center, then it's a C Lydian progression in G!
So you see "C Lydian" and think . . . Lydian, 4th degree of G!
So now do some homework, check out a Lydian Scale. Use that for
your melody when improvising! OR . . .
In this particular case, the progression generator gave you
a modal progression. You can change the feel of the progression
by either using a Lydian scale, OR . . . change the feel to
C major and use a C major scale. The only difference between
the two scales is . . . C Major has an F, C Lydian has an F#.
Why? C Lydian is a MODE of the key of G. G A B C D E F# G
G has an F#. C has an F. C D E F G A B C
It's the F# that makes it C Lydian in G, not C Major in C!
KEEP THE SAME ORDER! That's the whole idea! (IV vi I ii)
Make some progressions!
Keep chords in the same order!
Just change the cadence! Like . . .
[C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am '''] [C '''] [C HOLD]% Or . . .
[C '''] [ Em ''' ] [G ' Am '] [C '''] [C HOLD]% Or . . .
[C '''] [Em ' G '] [Am '''] [Am ' G7 '] [C '''] [C HOLD]% Or . . .
[C ' Em '] [G ' Am '] [C '''] [C HOLD]% Or . . .
[C ' Em G] [Am '''] [Am ' G7 '] [C '''] [C HOLD]%
[Pre-Chorus] [C ' Am ']
[Chorus] [Em ' Am '] [Em ' Am ']
[Em ' C '] [G ' Am ']
I V V V PC C V
[C ' G7 ']
[C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am ''']
[C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am ''']
[C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am ''']
[C ' Am ']
[Em ' Am '] [Em 'Am ']
[Em ' C '] [G ' Am ']
[C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am ''']
[C '''] [Em '''] [G '''] [Am '' G7]
[C ' C HOLD]
